Just now changed the belts on mine. The old belts were dust and goo. The previous owner had it sitting in a warehouse for many years. He just gave it too me. I didn't disassemble as you did but did remove the side panel, power switch extension and proximity switch. I left the wire rope on . I did the same as you by doubling up on the belts. Then cleaned and lubed the track. This is a very nice sounding machine.
